The love affair between Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin is a legend that has truly passed the test of time. And here is the feature film that brought them together in 1969.

The tale is set in the world of advertising in 1960’s France, wherein award-winning director, Gainsbourg, leaves his pregnant wife for an off-the-wall romance with Birkin. The visual style recalls the Beatles films shot by Richard Lester, as much as it does Get Smart, or Austin Powers. Yet the fact that the two acting leads really did fall in love lends this film a sense of surreal reality. The music of Gainsbourg saturates the movie, and the colours of Paris, Venice and other exotic locales are vivid and intense. Director Pierre Grimblat hails from the world of advertising itself, so the humour is warm and accurate.
